What is Li Hing Mui:
Li hing mui or traveling plum is a Chinese preserved fruit, which has a sour, sweet and salty taste. Although li hing mui is commonly sold in Asian markets, it was introduced in Hawaii by Chinese immigrants and became one of Hawaii's favorite snack foods within the last 100 years. Within this time period the taste of imported li hing mui has not changed. Other names used for this tasty snack food are crackseed (a licorice flavored wet preserved plum with a cracked pit that allows the inner fleshy part to release a unique flavor), see mui (sea plum), li hing (abreviated for of li hing mui), and wa mui (a plum that over loads the sense of taste). Based on the definitions given above, it can be surmised that li hing mui were taken on trips and used to stimulate the sense of taste.
